The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has instructed winners of the 2022/2023 Mini Bid Round and the 2024 Licensing Round to accelerate the development of their newly awarded petroleum assets.

The regulator emphasized the need for swift execution to translate licensing awards into tangible production gains.

This directive follows the formal execution of concession contracts for 19 Petroleum Prospecting Licences (PPLs) awarded in the 2024 bid round.

The licenses were granted to 12 winning companies, marking a significant step in Nigeria’s efforts to revitalize its upstream sector.

The NUPRC’s push for rapid development aligns with broader government goals to increase domestic oil and gas output and reduce reliance on mature fields.

The regulatory pressure comes as major international players continue to commit capital to Nigerian projects.
