Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has established a specialized investigation unit focused on combating money laundering and terror financing through cryptocurrency transactions.
The director of the agency announced the creation of dedicated squads designed to monitor and disrupt the use of virtual currencies in illegal activities, including cybercrime and the drug trade.
The move comes as authorities grapple with a surge in financial crimes linked to digital assets.
According to the FIA, more than 300 human trafficking cases have been registered over the past two years, many of which involved complex financial networks that traditional enforcement methods struggle to trace.
The new unit is expected to leverage advanced forensic tools to track blockchain transactions and identify illicit fund flows.
This development mirrors a tightening regulatory environment globally.
