The Paphos municipality and the Cyprus Ports Authority have agreed to pursue significant infrastructure upgrades at Kato Paphos harbour, with a focus on new cruise facilities and environmental preservation.
The two bodies held a meeting this week to finalize the scope of the project, which aims to modernize the port’s capacity to handle larger vessels while maintaining the historic character of the area.
The development marks a strategic shift for the western port, which has historically served smaller vessels and local traffic.
By introducing a dedicated cruise pier, the authorities aim to integrate Paphos more deeply into the Mediterranean cruise circuit, potentially diverting some traffic from the island’s primary commercial hub in Larnaca.
This move aligns with a broader national strategy to expand maritime infrastructure across Cyprus.
The Cyprus Ports Authority recently submitted a comprehensive 20-year development roadmap for Larnaca, outlining €415 million in planned projects to upgrade the island’s main commercial port and adjacent marina facilities.
