The Department of Justice and the Attorney General's Office, with support from the European Union, are hosting the soft launch of Papua New Guinea's National Human Rights Policy this afternoon at the Crown Hotel in Port Moresby.
The policy is designed to strengthen human rights protections through multi‑sector collaboration and will serve as a guideline for national, provincial, and local governments, state‑owned enterprises, development partners, non‑government organizations, the private sector, and rural communities.
"This is a very important day in the sense that we have a human rights policy in place," Hasznos said, urging government agencies to ensure timely delivery and coordinated action.
Ambassador of the European Union Delegation to Papua New Guinea, Her Excellency Erica Hasznos, congratulated the PNG government for its leadership, saying the policy reflects "a shared set of values" and establishes PNG's standing internationally as a like‑minded partner in support of the rule of law.
She emphasized that the policy must move beyond words to implementation, with regular monitoring and follow‑up to ensure it improves lives.

The event is currently underway, with guests from government, development partners, and civil society in attendance.
