The Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FFCCCII) has warned that the United States' imposition of a 12.5% tariff on Philippine exports will disrupt established supply chains and discourage foreign investment.

The chamber's assessment comes as the Trump administration prepares to enforce new duties of 10% to 12.5% on approximately 60 trading partners, a sweeping trade policy shift that also targets the European Union.

The FFCCCII stated that economists are increasingly concerned about the structural damage these levies could inflict on global trade networks.

The tariffs, justified by the administration as necessary for trade balance, are set to take effect this Friday.

The broad scope of the measure signals a significant escalation in US trade protectionism, moving beyond targeted sectors to encompass a wide array of goods from major economic partners.

For investors, the warning from the Philippines' largest business chamber highlights the growing risk of supply chain fragmentation.
