The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and the Philippine Payments Management Inc. (PPMI) have officially launched Direct Debit PH, a new system that allows consumers to enroll billers for automatic payments across different financial institutions.

The rollout coincides with an expansion of the InstaPay real-time payment network, further integrating the country's digital payment infrastructure.

Under the new Direct Debit PH framework, account holders can authorize automatic deductions for recurring expenses such as electricity and water utilities, regardless of which bank holds their account.

This cross-institutional capability is designed to reduce the friction of manual bill payments and improve cash flow management for both consumers and utility providers.

The expansion of InstaPay complements this move by enhancing the speed and reach of real-time fund transfers.

The development aligns with broader efforts to eliminate interbank transfer fees, which have historically ranged from P10 to P15 for moving money between banks.
