PIAC seeks prosecutorial powers to enforce petroleum revenue rules

New Zealand's Parliamentary Commissioner for Environmental Accountability (PIAC) is calling for expanded prosecutorial powers to strengthen oversight of the country's petroleum revenue management.

The watchdog argues that existing enforcement mechanisms are too weak to effectively penalize instances where funds have been misapplied, despite clear statutory provisions in the Petroleum Revenue Management Act (PRMA).
