The People's Liberation Army has initiated a two-day live-fire exercise in the Taiwan Strait, targeting coastal waters off the southeastern province of Fujian.
China's maritime authority announced the drills, which are scheduled to run from 6am to 6pm on Thursday and Friday, effectively closing the area to commercial traffic.
Authorities have declared the drill zone off Dongshan Island strictly prohibited for entry, advising all vessels to exercise caution and avoid the sector while the exercises are underway.
The closure represents a direct disruption to shipping lanes in one of the world's most critical trade corridors, adding to existing geopolitical friction in the region.
The move comes as tensions in the strait remain elevated.
