Portugal’s energy regulator, ERSE, has raised its weekly efficient price benchmark for motor fuels, with gasoline set at €1.986 per liter and diesel at €2.009 per liter.
The adjustment reflects the regulator’s calculation of international refined fuel quotations, freight costs, logistics, and reserves.
The new benchmarks arrive as actual retail prices in Portugal continue to defy the regulatory ceiling.
Diesel prices have remained above the efficient price level for six consecutive weeks, a deviation that highlights persistent structural pressures in the domestic fuel market.
Gasoline prices have also seen recent increases, with pump prices rising by two cents per liter in the latest weekly update.
This sustained gap between the regulatory benchmark and actual consumer prices underscores the difficulty of containing fuel costs despite the efficient price mechanism.
