Portuguese motorists are set to face a significant hike in fuel costs next week, with diesel prices expected to jump by 12 cents per liter and gasoline rising by 5 cents, according to estimates from the National Authority for Energy Regulation (ANAREC).
The regulator’s forecast, shared with Lusa, indicates that if current market trends persist, the price increases will take effect in the coming days.
The sharp rise in diesel costs reflects broader pressures in the European energy market, where wholesale prices for both gasoline and diesel have been climbing.
This development aligns with similar trends seen across the continent, including in Hungary, where motorists are also facing substantial increases in fuel costs driven by rising wholesale prices.
The surge in benchmark crude oil prices has dragged up the valuations of downstream derivatives, signaling immediate pressure on retail fuel prices.
As international crude markets rally, the cost of refining and distribution increases, forcing retailers to adjust their pricing strategies to maintain margins.
