Russian equity markets closed lower on Thursday, extending a multi-day period of selling pressure that has weighed on investor sentiment.
The benchmark MOEX Index declined 1.22% to finish the session at 2,209.84 points, while the dollar-denominated RTS Index fell more sharply, dropping 1.84% to 871.74 points.
The divergence between the two indices highlights continued currency headwinds.
The RTS Index, which is denominated in US dollars, underperformed the ruble-based MOEX, suggesting that weakness in the ruble is amplifying losses for foreign investors.
The yuan also weakened against the ruble, shedding 4.5 kopecks to close the session.
This latest decline follows a string of negative sessions for Russian equities.
