Inflation expectations among Russian consumers have climbed sharply, reaching 14.7% for the year ahead in July, up from 12.4% in June.
The survey, conducted by InFOM for the Bank of Russia, also revealed that observed inflation has accelerated to 15.1% in the reporting period, rising from 14.2% the previous month.
The jump in forward-looking price expectations indicates that households are increasingly pricing in sustained cost increases.
This shift in sentiment poses a direct challenge to the central bank’s efforts to anchor inflation, as higher expectations can become self-fulfilling through wage demands and spending behavior.
The divergence between official headline inflation and consumer perception highlights the growing disconnect between macroeconomic data and household reality.
Official data from Rosstat shows annual consumer price inflation accelerated to 6.02% in June, up from 5.31% in May, with a monthly increase of 0.87%.
