Russia’s pipeline natural gas exports to Turkey contracted by 4% in the first five months of 2026 compared to the same period last year, according to calculations by TASS based on data from Turkey’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK).
In May alone, Turkey imported 1.27 billion cubic meters from Russia, marking a continued moderation in bilateral energy flows.
This contraction follows a sharp monthly drop in June, when Russian gas exports to Europe fell 26% month-on-month and 4% year-on-year to 1.
The data points to a persistent structural shift in European energy sourcing.
While Turkey remains a key transit and consumption hub, the year-to-date decline aligns with wider trends across the continent.
Recent analysis of Eurostat figures indicates that total EU purchases of Russian natural gas, encompassing both pipeline and liquefied volumes, fell by 10% in the first five months of 2026.
