Samsung Biologics has agreed to acquire Switzerland-based PolyPeptide Group in an all-cash transaction valued at 1.46 billion Swiss francs, or approximately $1.8 billion (2.7 trillion won).

The deal targets PolyPeptide’s expertise in peptide-based active pharmaceutical ingredients, a high-growth segment within the broader biopharmaceutical manufacturing landscape.

The acquisition represents a strategic pivot for Samsung Biologics, which has historically focused on large-molecule biologics.

By integrating PolyPeptide’s capabilities, the South Korean contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) aims to diversify its service portfolio and capture demand from the expanding peptide therapeutics market.

This move aligns with broader industry trends where major CDMOs are consolidating specialized manufacturing niches to offer end-to-end solutions for pharmaceutical clients.

For investors, the transaction underscores Samsung Biologics’ commitment to global expansion beyond its domestic base.
