Saudi Aramco has suspended operations at its Jizan oil refinery in southwestern Saudi Arabia following an attack by Yemeni Houthi rebels.
The national oil giant confirmed the facility was shut down on July 27 to ensure the safety of personnel and infrastructure after the incident, which involved ballistic missiles and drones targeting the site.
The Jizan refinery, with a processing capacity of 400,000 barrels per day, is a critical node in Saudi Arabia’s downstream infrastructure.
Its temporary closure removes a significant volume of refined product from the market, adding to existing supply-side anxieties in the energy sector.
While the immediate impact on global crude benchmarks may be muted by ample spare capacity elsewhere, the incident highlights the vulnerability of key energy assets to regional instability.
The attack has intensified fears for Red Sea shipping lanes, according to maritime security firm EOS Marine, which issued an advisory warning of heightened risks for vessels transiting the region.
