Serbia slashes fuel excise duties by 20% in one-week price relief measure

The Serbian government has approved a temporary 20 percent reduction in excise duties on petrol and diesel to curb rising fuel costs at the pump.

The measure, which takes effect immediately, is scheduled to remain in place for one week, from July 20 to July 26.

This intervention follows a recent uptick in retail fuel prices, with both diesel and gasoline seeing increases of two dinars per litre earlier in the week.

Diesel currently trades at 222 dinars per litre, while gasoline is priced at 198 dinars, according to local market data.

The decision reflects ongoing structural pressures on local energy markets in the Balkan region, even as broader global benchmarks fluctuate.

By temporarily lowering the tax burden, officials aim to provide immediate relief to consumers and businesses facing elevated energy costs.
