A commercial tanker was hit by a projectile 40 nautical miles northeast of Oman’s coast, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported.

The agency confirmed that the crew members were unharmed in the incident, which occurred in waters adjacent to the critical Strait of Hormuz chokepoint.

The attack adds to a series of disruptions in the region, following reports earlier this week of another tanker being struck by an unknown projectile and catching fire nearby.

These incidents highlight the persistent security risks facing maritime traffic in one of the world’s most vital energy corridors.

Brent crude prices remained under pressure from the ongoing geopolitical instability, with traders pricing in the continued risk of supply disruptions.

The repeated targeting of commercial vessels suggests that shipping insurance premiums and freight rates in the region are likely to remain elevated as operators navigate the heightened threat environment.
