Petrol prices in the United Kingdom are on track to breach the 160p per litre threshold this week, marking the highest level since the outbreak of the Iran conflict.

The Royal Automobile Club (RAC) forecasts that upward pressure will persist through the coming days, driven by sustained volatility in global crude markets.

Over the weekend, the average price for petrol ticked up by 0.6p to 157.81p, while diesel rose by 1p to 175.71p.

These incremental increases are the latest manifestation of the supply-side risks that have kept energy traders on edge.

The RAC’s projection suggests that the pass-through from wholesale crude to retail pumps is accelerating as stations adjust to the new price floor.

This development follows a sharp rally in crude oil markets earlier in the week, which recorded their largest two-day percentage gain in four months.
