The US dollar exchange rate in Iraq showed divergent trends on Thursday, holding steady in Baghdad while ticking up in the northern city of Erbil.
In the capital, the greenback closed around 150,400 Iraqi dinars per 100 dollars, maintaining the level seen in previous sessions.
The current levels in Baghdad represent a notable recovery for the Iraqi dinar compared to Wednesday, when the rate had slipped to approximately 153,500 IQD per $100.
This stability follows a period of volatility where the local currency had briefly weakened before recovering ground earlier in the week.
In Erbil, however, the dollar gained modestly against the dinar, breaking the uniformity of the recent strengthening trend observed across the country.
The divergence highlights the persistent fragmentation between Iraq’s central and northern foreign exchange markets, where liquidity conditions and local demand dynamics often drive separate pricing outcomes.
