The United States has imposed a 10% tariff on imports from Malaysia, citing persistent concerns over forced labour practices in global supply chains.
The measure, which took effect today, places Malaysia among 17 economies subject to the new trade barrier, alongside India and 15 other nations.
US officials had previously indicated that an indicative 10% duty would be applied if findings confirmed the allegations.
Malaysia’s Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) confirmed it will maintain ongoing engagement with US authorities regarding the decision.
The ministry emphasized its commitment to dialogue despite the immediate implementation of the levy, which targets goods produced under conditions alleged to involve forced labour.
The tariff follows a prolonged US investigation into labour standards in Malaysia.
