The United States has imposed new tariffs of up to 12.5% on imports from Switzerland, effective immediately.
The Swiss government confirmed it has taken note of the announcement, stating that the US is still adhering to a joint statement from November 2025.
The move marks a significant escalation in US trade policy, targeting a key European economy despite recent diplomatic efforts.
US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer had previously signaled a constructive shift in negotiations with Switzerland, raising hopes in Zurich that the country might avoid a fresh wave of duties.
Those hopes have now been dashed as Washington proceeds with the broader tariff rollout.
