The United States, Japan, and the Philippines have commenced a five-day joint military exercise in the South China Sea, deploying warships, coast guard vessels, and fighter aircraft to enhance operational interoperability among the allied forces.

The drills, which began on Monday, are designed to strengthen coordination and readiness among the three nations' militaries.

According to the Philippine military, the operations involve a mix of naval and air assets aimed at improving joint response capabilities in the contested waters.

This development follows a series of diplomatic and strategic moves by the coalition.

Earlier this week, a group of 14 nations, including the US, Japan, and the Philippines, issued a joint statement declaring that China's expansive maritime claims in the South China Sea lack legal basis.

The statement reaffirmed the group's commitment to international law and freedom of navigation.
