Venezuela’s oil production has climbed to 1.2 million barrels per day, defying concerns that the twin earthquakes which struck the country earlier this week would disrupt output.
Interim President Delcy Rodriguez confirmed the resilience of the sector, stating that operations remained unaffected by the natural disasters that have claimed thousands of lives.
The assurance comes as markets had braced for potential supply disruptions from one of the world’s largest holders of proven oil reserves.
The confirmed death toll from the quakes has risen to 2,595, according to Rodriguez, who addressed the nation late Thursday night.
Despite the severe humanitarian crisis, the energy infrastructure appears to have withstood the seismic activity, preventing a sudden contraction in global supply.
This development is significant for energy traders who were monitoring the situation for signs of operational downtime.
