The Vizhinjam International Seaport in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, is set to commence full export-import (EXIM) operations on August 18.
The launch marks a critical operational milestone for the deep-water facility, transitioning it from phased testing to comprehensive commercial service.
Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSE.NS), the operator of the terminal, has been developing the site to handle large container vessels and bulk cargo, aiming to reduce India's reliance on northern ports for international trade.
The move to full EXIM status will allow the port to process all types of international cargo, enhancing its role in the country's maritime logistics network.
The development follows significant operational progress at the site, which recently handled its 1,000th vessel, the MSC Luciana, operated by Mediterranean Shipping Company.
This milestone underscored the port's growing integration into global shipping routes.
