West Bengal police have arrested an alleged operative linked to the proscribed Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) network in Howrah.
The Special Task Force detained the individual on Monday following an investigation into an espionage module operating within the state.
Investigators revealed that the arrested operative was part of a cell tasked with monitoring the transit routes of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.
The module was also gathering intelligence on Minister Umesh Rai, according to police sources.
The arrest follows the interrogation of previously detained suspects who provided details on the network's activities.
The development highlights ongoing security challenges in the region, where militant groups continue to attempt infiltration and intelligence gathering against high-profile political figures.
