The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) has successfully implemented its Closing Auction Session (CAS), marking a significant operational shift in how end-of-day stock prices are determined.

The new mechanism went live on Monday, August 3, replacing the previous continuous trading close with an auction-based process designed to reduce volatility and improve price discovery at the session's end.

Initial participation was robust, with more than 400 trading members engaging in the auction across over 200 listed securities.

The rollout proceeded without technical disruption, signaling a smooth transition for market infrastructure.

The CAS aims to aggregate orders in a final call auction, providing a single clearing price that reflects the equilibrium of supply and demand at the close, rather than the last traded price of continuous trading.

Market reaction to the debut was muted, with benchmark indices showing minimal movement.
