A former FBI supervisory special agent has been charged in Virginia with stealing nearly $1 million in cryptocurrency from digital wallets linked to a Russian investigative target.
Patrick Steven Yaroch allegedly used his access to bureau systems to memorize private seed phrases, which he then used to transfer the funds into personal accounts.
Yaroch surrendered to authorities after reportedly contacting the Department of Justice.
According to NBC News, the former agent confessed to the theft, stating that the guilt was "eating him up inside."
