The Italian navy has boarded a tanker linked to Russia’s shadow fleet for inspection in international waters off the coast of Pantelleria, an island situated between Sicily and Tunisia.
The operation was conducted by the Italian vessel Thaon di Revel as part of a mission to monitor arms and oil trafficking.

The interception follows a similar move by British naval forces earlier this week, which intercepted a Russian-linked tanker attempting to navigate the English Channel.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer confirmed the British operation, describing it as a direct escalation in the enforcement of Western sanctions against Moscow's energy sector.
