The National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) has launched a new mutual fund distribution platform, NCDEX Nidhi, marking a significant expansion beyond its traditional derivatives business.
The initiative is designed to broaden access to investment products for retail investors in smaller cities and rural areas, a segment that has historically been underserved by mainstream financial distribution networks.
NCDEX management has described the launch as a transformative step for the industry, drawing parallels to the government's Vande Bharat train initiative in terms of its potential to modernize and accelerate financial inclusion.
The platform aims to leverage the exchange's existing infrastructure and reach to bring mutual fund products to a wider audience, potentially unlocking a new revenue stream for the exchange while serving a broader social objective.
This move follows NCDEX's recent efforts to revitalize its commodity trading business, including the relaunch of black pepper futures contracts in July.
That initiative was part of a broader strategy to establish credible, India-centric reference prices for key agricultural commodities.
