Bangladesh has drafted a revised national gold policy designed to bring the country's precious metals sector under a formal, regulated, and accountable framework.

The government's initiative seeks to increase transparency in legal trade, boost exports, and expand government revenue from a sector that has historically operated largely outside institutional oversight due to inadequate regulations and weak enforcement.

The policy draft follows a formal consultation process initiated by the Commerce Ministry, which aims to address long-standing structural weaknesses in the industry.

By establishing clearer rules for import, export, and domestic trading, the government intends to curb illicit flows and integrate the gold market more fully into the formal economy.

This regulatory tightening is expected to provide greater visibility into trade volumes and improve tax collection mechanisms.

The development comes as global demand dynamics for gold are shifting.
