The European Commission has approved €30 million in emergency financial support for Portuguese agricultural producers, aiming to mitigate the impact of severe weather disruptions that have plagued the sector this year.

The allocation is part of a larger €56 million aid package secured from member states to assist farmers across five EU countries, including Romania, Cyprus, and others affected by similar climatic challenges.

National authorities in Portugal are tasked with ensuring the rapid distribution of these funds to eligible producers.

The Commission has set a strict deadline, requiring that the aid be fully disbursed no later than February 28, 2027.

This timeline underscores the urgency of stabilizing farm incomes and preventing long-term structural damage to the country’s agricultural output.

The support comes as extreme weather events continue to pose significant risks to European food security and supply chains.
