Posted: Thursday, July 30, 2026 1:10 pm Views: 0 By Zoila Palma: San Ignacio and Santa Elena Towns recorded the highest increase in consumer prices among Belize's municipalities in June 2026, with an inflation rate of 6.0 percent, according to data from the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB).
Orange Walk Town recorded the second-highest inflation rate at 5.4 percent, followed by Benque Viejo del Carmen at 5.3 percent. Belmopan and Punta Gorda Town each recorded inflation rates of 4.6 percent, while Belize City stood at 4.5 percent and Corozal Town at 4.4 percent.
Independence recorded an inflation rate of 4.2 percent, while Dangriga registered 3.9 percent.
San Pedro Town recorded the lowest increase in consumer prices at 3.4 percent, with residents experiencing below-average increases in the costs of sea fares, restaurant and café services, LPG and medical services.
SIB explained that consumers in San Ignacio-Santa Elena experienced above-average price increases across a wide range of goods and services, including passenger transport, grocery items such as bread and bakery products, brown and white sugar, fruit-bearing vegetables, dairy products and purified water, as well as electricity, rent, medical services, restaurant and café services, clothing and footwear, and cigarettes.
