Eastern Bank PLC has entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Roads and Highways Department (RHD) of Bangladesh to deploy advanced digital toll collection systems across the state agency’s bridge network.

The agreement, signed on Sunday, positions the bank as a key financial infrastructure partner in the country’s push toward cashless transportation payments.

The partnership signals a broader trend of commercial banks in emerging markets leveraging their payment rails to capture value in public infrastructure projects.

By integrating toll collection into its retail and SME banking ecosystem, Eastern Bank aims to deepen customer engagement while diversifying revenue streams beyond traditional lending.

The move aligns with global patterns where financial institutions are increasingly embedded in logistics and transport finance.

This development follows similar initiatives in the region, such as the collaboration between Bosch Mobility Solutions and IDFC FIRST Bank in India, which launched a Multi-Lane Free Flow toll system to streamline vehicular movement.
