Hyundai Motor Group is set to acquire the remaining shares in Boston Dynamics, effectively making the U.S. robotics company a wholly owned subsidiary.
The move follows SoftBank Group’s decision to exercise its put option, triggering the sale of its approximately 10% stake in the robotics firm.
The transaction consolidates Hyundai’s control over Boston Dynamics, which it initially acquired in 2021.
By removing SoftBank as a minority shareholder, Hyundai gains full strategic autonomy over the robotics developer’s roadmap, particularly regarding the integration of autonomous mobility technologies with its automotive operations.
This development marks a significant step in Hyundai’s broader push into advanced robotics and autonomous systems.
The full ownership structure allows for more seamless collaboration between Boston Dynamics’ robotics expertise and Hyundai’s vehicle manufacturing capabilities, potentially accelerating the deployment of self-driving technologies and robotic solutions in industrial and consumer markets.
