Hyundai Motor Group is set to acquire SoftBank Group’s remaining stake in Boston Dynamics, making the US robotics firm a wholly owned subsidiary.

The deal finalizes Hyundai’s control over the robotics pioneer, which it previously held a majority interest in, and clears the path for deeper integration of advanced automation into its automotive supply chain.

SoftBank Group, which held approximately 10% of Boston Dynamics, will exit its position in the robotics company.

The strategic move comes as Hyundai prepares to deploy Boston Dynamics’ humanoid robot, Atlas, at its car manufacturing plant in Georgia starting in 2028.

By bringing Boston Dynamics fully under its corporate umbrella, Hyundai aims to accelerate the commercialization of humanoid robotics for industrial applications, moving beyond prototype demonstrations to large-scale factory floor implementation.

SoftBank Group, which held approximately 10% of Boston Dynamics, will exit its position in the robotics company.

The Japanese conglomerate’s shares surged more than 16% on Thursday, driven by robust earnings from its Nvidia holdings that underscored the growing momentum in the artificial intelligence sector.
