Japan's top power generator JERA has confirmed it has secured adequate liquefied natural gas (LNG) inventories to cover demand through October.
The company stated it sees no risk to stable power supply, even if a summer heatwave boosts electricity consumption and gas-fired generation needs.
The assurance from JERA, which operates a significant portion of Japan's thermal power fleet, provides a counterweight to recent supply-side anxieties in the global LNG market.
Earlier this week, reports emerged of drone attacks causing fires on LNG tankers at Egypt's Damietta port, raising concerns about potential bottlenecks in the Mediterranean shipping corridor.
JERA's inventory position suggests that Japanese buyers have already front-loaded purchases or secured long-term contracts sufficient to buffer against such short-term logistical shocks.
This development is significant for global LNG pricing, as Japan remains one of the world's largest importers.
