Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) has projected private debt issuance in Malaysia to reach RM170 billion, citing a sharp increase in corporate funding demand.

The forecast underscores a structural shift in the country's capital markets, where companies are increasingly turning to bond markets rather than traditional bank loans to finance expansion and operations.

To support this growing market, Maybank has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Credit Guarantee and Investment Facility (CGIF), a trust fund managed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The partnership aims to strengthen the local debt market infrastructure, providing greater confidence for investors and issuers alike.

By leveraging ADB's guarantee mechanisms, the initiative seeks to lower borrowing costs and broaden the investor base for Malaysian corporate bonds.

This development aligns with Maybank's broader optimistic stance on the Malaysian economy.
