Papua New Guinea’s National Petroleum Authority has completed awareness activities across both upstream and downstream areas of the Papua LNG project, according to Petroleum Minister Jimmy Maladina.
The outreach marks a procedural step toward resolving community concerns that have long complicated the project’s timeline.
The move follows a directive from Prime Minister James Marape, who instructed Maladina to address all outstanding issues surrounding the development.
Political leaders in Port Moresby have previously moved to quell fears among local communities, asserting that no landowners would be excluded from compensation payments.
The current awareness campaign appears designed to reinforce those assurances and secure broader social license for the project.
For energy markets, the Papua LNG project represents a potential new supply source in the Asia-Pacific region.
