Vietnamese consumers are spending significantly more on toppings than on the instant noodles themselves, with the average cost of a single bowl of instant noodles reaching 18,400 dong ($0.70) when including added ingredients.

According to a report by Tuoi Tre, shoppers are adding an average of 10,600 dong in eggs, fresh vegetables, and meat to their meals.

This trend reflects a growing consumer desire to mitigate health concerns associated with processed foods, such as nutritional deficiencies and internal heat, by supplementing convenience meals with fresh protein and produce.

The shift highlights how inflationary pressures on fresh food items are reshaping household spending habits in Vietnam.

While instant noodles remain a staple due to their low base price, the additional cost of fresh toppings is becoming a substantial portion of the total meal expense.

This behavior suggests that consumers are prioritizing perceived nutritional value and health benefits over pure cost minimization, even as the overall price of a meal rises.
