Petronas and the Sabah state government have launched two new digital platforms designed to strengthen the local oil and gas workforce.
The initiative focuses on improving access to employment opportunities and enhancing training programs for workers in the region, a critical hub for Malaysia’s energy sector.
The move comes as Petronas continues to expand its upstream footprint, with exploration and drilling operations at major gas blocks in Turkmenistan scheduled to commence as early as December, according to recent statements by Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Additionally, the national oil company recently confirmed a new natural gas discovery at its offshore Block 52 in Suriname, underscoring a period of active resource development.
By digitizing workforce management, the partnership seeks to address potential talent bottlenecks that could constrain production growth.
Strengthening the local labor pool in Sabah is particularly relevant given the state’s central role in Malaysia’s oil and gas output.
