Wihlborgs has signaled significant reservations regarding plans to construct a new hotel atop the Malmömässan exhibition center in Hyllie, citing concerns that the development could disrupt ongoing operations at the site.

The Swedish property group, which recently acquired the asset from Castellum, is prioritizing the stability of existing business activities over immediate expansion projects.

Ulrika Hallengren, CEO of Wihlborgs, stated that the company risks interfering with the current business model if the renovation proceeds as initially envisioned.

This cautious stance marks a shift from the aggressive redevelopment strategies often associated with large-scale property acquisitions in the Skåne region.

The decision underscores the operational complexities involved in integrating new hospitality infrastructure with active exhibition facilities.

The hesitation comes shortly after Wihlborgs completed the purchase of Castellum's Skåne property portfolio, a deal driven by the seller's need to address low yields on its assets.
