Indian Oil Corporation and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd have reported finding no evidence of fuel adulteration or water contamination following a massive nationwide audit.
The state-owned oil marketing companies (OMCs) conducted the checks to address growing rumors and consumer concerns regarding the quality of E20 petrol, a blend containing 20% ethanol.
Indian Oil, the country’s largest fuel retailer, deployed human resources and scientific testing across its network, carrying out nearly 10,000 surprise inspections.
The company conducted more than 8,500 scientific quality tests within a single week to verify fuel integrity at the pump.
Hindustan Petroleum participated in the coordinated effort, reinforcing the industry-wide commitment to maintaining fuel standards amid the transition to higher ethanol blends.
The findings come as the Indian government accelerates the rollout of E20 petrol to reduce dependence on imported crude oil and support domestic ethanol production.
