Malaysian palm oil futures for October delivery retreated on Friday, weighed down by softening prices in rival edible oils and a pullback in crude oil markets.
The October contract on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Exchange fell 23 ringgit, or 0.49%, to settle at 4,660 ringgit ($1,141) per metric ton.
Despite the intraday slide, the contract remains positioned for a second consecutive month of gains.
The modest decline reflects broader cross-asset pressure rather than fundamental supply concerns specific to palm oil.
Traders are closely monitoring the correlation between palm oil and its primary substitutes, as weakness in Dalian-based oils continues to exert downward pressure on the Malaysian benchmark.
The market has been tracking a reversal of earlier momentum, with palm oil extending losses from a previous session on Wednesday.
